As far as i understand its a fairly straightforward conversion!
You would need an angle grinder lol.......and from a doner vr6....vr6 engine(OBD2),driveshafts,wheel bearing housings and front suspension parts, complete wiring loom and Ecu,i think theres a few other bits though and you need to convert the rear wheels to 5 stud to match the front wheels stud pattern to upgrade your brakes!
Hope this helps a little!
There is quite a bit of info on the watercooled forums i do believe as well. VR6 in a MK1 Golf. 16560

dont do it, its not as straight forward as you think. theres a lot of fabrication work involved like engine mounts and fitting mk3 golf vr6 subframe
plus also the car will no longer handle as the vr lump is very heavy
if you want more info check out http://www.vwcaddyforum.com/search.php?s=a8eba2f00ed15070b47f38a227881eae&searchid=1867849

personally i'd go for a abf conversion (2l 16v)
alot less work involvled and still good power

Nice one! Been scaning the wed all afternoon and ....... you are right my friend! VR6 in a MK1 Golf. 16560 Going to see whats about on the 16v front! VR6 in a MK1 Golf. 801300 Do you reckon its best to get a whole car for the doner, I am guessing I can't use my gear box so if I got a complete doner car, pretty much all I need would be there! personally i would buy a whole car, u will find that itll work out cheaper that way once u have sold the bits u dont need
with the gearbox theres 2 options to go for
1, use your original mk1 gearbox clutch and flywheel, wouldnt advise this though as they can only just really handle the standard 8v power
2, use the o2a gearbox that comes with the engine, just you may need to convert it from hydraulic clutch to cable which is fairly easy to all parts are available from seat. when using this gearbox you will also need to use a after market gearbox mount but these are readily available from places like the caddy forum etc

hope this helps if you have any more questions just fire away i'll help where i can
