We had to jump start the bus for bristol, there wasn't even the slightest clicking noise when I turned the key.

Ben reckons that the battery may be 'fucked' and the regulator is on its way out. And as it's a built in regulator the whole alternator needs to be replaced. And there is possibly a drain when the ignition is off.

Can someone sort it out for me please ? And will it cost megabucks ?

Could just as easily be the the ignition switch breaking down or like mine was,the solenoid on the starter sticking..
It didnt make any noise at all, just turn the key and nothing.
Mines good now though as i took starter off and took solenoid apart and cleaned it,works great now smile smile

Is there any easy way of finding out what was wrong with it then ? or is it just a case of cleaning/changing everything one thing at a time until it all works fine ? I worry that it wont start when I really need it too..

I would start with cleaning the starter motor solenoid firstly, means taking off the starter motor though..
Then if that dont cure it try the charging system smile

If it was the battery it wouldent of started, i think you may have the ledgendry vw sticky starter syndrome or a corroded terminal. smile

This john muir book is a bit rubbish. Theres no 'sticky starter' OR 'terminal' OR 'coroded terminal' in the index at the back.

Would the terminal be the little metal thing that clare cleaned off with a nail file last year .. that was in the castle ? .. I reckon I can do that if it is ! Very Happy
