i used to brew when i was in saudi................

i used to make about 5 or 6 different types of wine............

and a nice dark beer...........

but we do it different out there...............ie we get non alcoholic beer............boil up some water melting sugar, empty beer into a bin add in sugary water then add yeast....................

its fucking loopy juice once done cos you cant really control the alcohol strength wink

I've done it with the kits Boots used to sell... I did Bitter not lager and it was ok but not amazing. You could drink it but I'm not sure you'd choose to if there was an alternative lol Cheap enough to buy the ingredients but the kit cost a bit. Supposed the more you make the better the cost

Hi

I just joined the site, and the first post to come up was about home brew - awesome, my specialty.

Where are you based, def pays to find the local brew shop!

I've steered away from lager as it's hard to make it nice - if you like real ale/bitter, go for those kits (I recommend Woodfordes very highly), as although they're all different each brew, they're all good!

BTW, I'm in Cheltenham and got a rat T3, thought I'd say hey!

ye iv been down to the POPs place in grovner st and i guess i will buy the kit there ,if i cant grab a barging on ebay , i prefer larger but i can Imagen it being harder to make nice and fizzy so mite go for a light beer for first go smile

I got all the kit for christmas. My lovely wife got it from Wilkinsons in Gloucester. First Real Ale kit turned out really well so I started another but this ones not so good. I also made a white wine kit but it's horrible. I've also done a red which was better but looks like a rose.

Think I'll have a pint, see if it's any better cola

Should be fine at that temp. Mine stayed in the garage over winter and it was fine.
At the mo i have got a Woodfords kit on the go. http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/beerkits/woodfordes/woodfordes-wherry-bitter-3kg-40pt.html
Bit floral but very nice. plus all you add is water and 20 teaspoon of sugar when it goes in the barrel. The main load of sugar is already in the mix.

I might have overdone it a bit, had a crack at cider for the first time and got about 600 pints, tastes OK but looks like morning p**s. The home brew shop in Grosvenor St were helpful and he reckons its about 6% but I reckon it's a bit more turbo than that....might need a hand getting rid of it if we have a meet now the weather is better if anyone like apples?
