Weardybeardy's T4 build

So started here this morning



and after a few hours i have pretty much got the insulation all sorted. Just a few little bits to finish




fitted the gear stick 'extension'


front carpet mat


new seat covers, the seats need to be recovered but this will work as an interim


and B pillar trims to save having to carpet the b pillars and have that slightly awkward join between 'factory' and 'conversion'



had an early start on Saturday to collect this baby from Coventry.




Eberspacher D2 diesel heater to be mounted under drivers seat and provide year round warmth!
Need to test it to make sure its working. Bignosebry has a 'test rig' set up for his, so I'll fly over there at some point in the week.

has a timer / programmer / thermostat too!

Well does the heater work?

Been away for a few days so not had chance to test the heater. Rims and lowering will have to wait until the 'essentials' are sorted!

Started on the headlining today - recovering with Mega Van Mats carpet.

Again Mega Van Mats Carpet - the van sides will be a bit darker - done in anthracite

what glue did you use mate ? iv never found anything that dont sag after a bit of hot whether , looks great btw

The glue was high temp spray on stuff - again from mega van mats.
They guarantee it will do the job!

I thought I was going to hate this bit of the build, but I'm actually finding it really enjoyable and satisfying. I've actually had fun today and I'm really pleased with the results.

Thanks Paddy. Have done some more today - half fitted headlining and carpeted the pills and bits that wont be covered by panels, but it was too dark to take any pics by the time I'd finished.

Another busy weekend.

Headlining now in. Need to make and carpet some proper support spars but definately an improvement



Tackled the issue of the floor with some new 12mm ply. Lots of cardboard templating involved:

Yes!

Going with a t4 life interior. Basically cabinets down the drivers side with 'wardrobe' unit at the rear.
Going to go for a 'pull out' rear kitchen on drawer runners that slides out from under the R&R bed.

Lots to do before we get to that stage though!

Sound good. Will you be doing this yourself to! Look forward to more pics.
Pull out kitchen so you don't have to sleep with the smell of cooking def a good idea.
What colour scheme you got planned. ??
Red an charcoal.I think then a pair of 20" black rims with red pin stripes.!!!! Nice

We've just bought a LWB Caravelle and were thinking of a very similar colour to yours, or that lovely metallic brown they do on the T5.5 Caravelles - any chance of a rough guide price (by PM if you like) as it looks like a good job on yours.

I've stripped all the headlining out ready for a bit of wiring works. Ply floor now fixed in place and remaining jobs for this week / weekend will be:

Cover 'short' side panel in carpet ( when carpet arrives).
Cover floor with vinyl.
Fit radio areal on roof - signal from new one by A pillar (T4's r us £12 special) is just crap, so going to fit a bee sting in the roof panel.
Start the eberspacher diesel heater installation. Need to start by cutting a big hole under the drivers seat!

Well, 'short' panel carpeted and speakers fitted in pods and wired up.
I've left the headlining out as there's more electrical stuff to be done - ignore the trailing wires, they need to be taped up to the roof before the headlining goes back in.
Photo's aren't great as it was dark by the time I finished tonight and the flash on my phone is rubbish!
Onto the floor next!
Then the heater.






Van needs to be complete before the end of May, so I've got lots to be getting on with!

It was good to see you after so long - I don't think we've seen each other since the first 'cruze' back in September 2009! Sorry I had so much going on and we couldn't sit down for a brew.

I had a sort out this evening of other bits and pieces that I've got 'left over' - lining carpet, flash banding and that silver insulation stuff and the like - I've got a few more bits to do, but by this time next week I should have got all the 'odds and ends' sorted and if any of this is of use to you then let me know - it'll only gather dust in the workshop at work and (quite rightly) annoy our (already unbelievably tolerant) store man, so let me know if any of it is of use to you.

You should start a thread on the Caravelle - it would be good to see you 'online' a bit more and I'd love to see your project progress.

That would be great actually mate as I've got a few ideas for stuff I have to do - primarily some speaker pods to get something decent in the back, stock T4 placements are woefully poor... Certainly carpet and bits and bobs would be great for definate! Cheers.

Don't suppose you've got any sikaflex type stuff? I only need a little, not really worth buying a tube.
