Assuming I cut the wood exactly and don't put anything too heavy on the shelf, can I just glue it in without having to put some of those block things in to support it ?

It will be mdf shelf against a cupboard with white plasticy sides ?

I just tried putting one of those block things in to support the shelf, but couldn't get the screw past the white plasticy stuff.. unless I go back with a drill..
