need help with possible split in body of Beetle

i've just been informed that both upper and lower hinges panels on body will require work. the upper area the most as the door has dropped it has put a load on the area and it is starting to split the seam of the body, need to know basically what work would be required as am meant to be buying car tomorro!

What year bug is it?????

bottom hinges are not too bad...but as for the top hinge...im a bit stumped as ive never had to do it....

i will pop out to my oval now and have a quick shufftee to see if i can work out what you mean

someone went to properly view it over for me and that is what they told me, it's my first bug and do't really know that much about them, so i'm a bit lost about it!!!

Look at this piccy ^^^^^^^ look where the top hinge is............i think you mean where the quarter panel (the wing normally bolts here) mees the scuttle panel( this panel is the one where your windscreen wipers pop up thru)


If this ^^^^^^^^^^^ is what is up then it could mean a lot of work( without pics its hard to say) but,please bear in mind im fishing blind here so i am having an educated guess, if it has split at this area....then you could be looking at a new scuttle panel,possibly aswell quarter panel replacement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

who will be doin the work/welding???? yourself or you paying someone??????
Either way if it comes to quarter panel replacement you gotta know what you are doing.

if you worried dont buy it yet imo . theres a lot of shitters out there . iv sold most of um , dont rush i would say . if you go and get pics of anything your worried about we will have a look and do are best to help .

i'm wanting an on roader that can later b project!
i'll have to see if i can put buying it on hold and get some pics first and find out from there whats best to do! cos it does have a few other jobs need doing and wanting it drivable for Bug Jam! and if it requires loads of work wont be able to afford B/J as well

but seriously, like the otherws have said. if you have any concerns about the car leave it be, unless you can do the work or know a dude that can do it or its not too bad. there are a few bugs out there so dont rush into anything.
id listen to what oily and mario say, they know bugs very well. i just know how to weld em up then crash em

thing is when you buy a bug with few things wrong it adds up fucking quick . you think its just this and that but before long you find it ows you more that if you bort a nice one in the first place ., and the nice one will still be nicer at the end of the day .

yeah. i took the carling can off, gut some exhaust putty and then filled the hole with it and coverd it all with a magners can .

spose i'll get a new one sometime, or get it welded

i know a welder so don't have too much of problem there.
i'm only in a little bit of rush as want one to get me and boys about and to bug jam in july
i have a budget of £1500 and bloke is selling it for £1300
i know i'm getting really giddy cos it's my first bug (well car) but i'm not gonna be stupid and just run out and buy first car that comes along. i just need a car thats gonna get me through the next yr or so with out to many dilemas as i'm outta work for now.
but i'll definatly try get some photos up asap!

This bug is at the top of your budget,so DEFFO get some pics up so we can see these hinges and MORE importantly the "split"....
Changing the bottom hinge panel isnt really that hard if you know what your up to.
The welder you know,have they worked on bugs before???? How much are they gonna charge you to weld???

My MAIN concern is this "split", so try and get piccies of that area..
is this bug taxed, mot'd???? If not it could cost you more than the £200 you will have left in your budget!!!!!

I gotta be honest im wondering why that bolt is in there^^^....if its not the same type of thread it could have stripped out the origional threads








I cant really see this clearly apart from being rusty it looks like the bottom of the door has caught the rust too.

Another thing to consider is it the door hinge PINS that are causing the door to drop.........................if it is this is a lot easier to sort than chopping out and welding in new metal..

is it original paint ? it looks like its on think so could be covering all sorts . wheres was the original ad ?

-it is moted till oct
- seller says previous owner resprayed it, and that original colour was orange..?
- i put a 'wanted' post on VZI and guy responded to it on there

if it helps anything it is coming with 2 spare doors, as well as few other things, that he got for it don't think there brand new or anything as he got them given free!

without seeing the car it is hard to say if it is a crock of shit or not!!!!
I would still try and get it cheaper tho
