I use a couple of milton tablets to sterilise the bucket, if you ain't got a air lock a length of sterilised tube leading into a glass of water will do.
Never use a hydrometer, takes the fun out of working out the volume by taste lol
When I use the woodfordes kits I put the yeast in staight away, never had a problem of heat cause you top it up with cold water.
When its stopped bubbling, sterilise the barrel (1 or 2 milton tabs again) and sython beer in and add 1/2 teaspoon of sugar per pint and stir. Leave for four(ish) weeks and enjoy. home brew people , help please . 396852
