when checking compression from cold put a spoon full of engine oil down the bores (not wd 40) before cranking. also it may be the heads not sealing.smile

As the heads are off now I'd clean all that shit off them and check for cracks, lap the valves in again, lap the barrels to the heads, check the rings and put it back together. That way you know it ain't compression.

Like the rev said - do the basics. You need 3 things - fuel, compression, ignition. Sorry if it sounds like teaching nan to suck eggs.

Oh and get green HT leads like Toast said. Yellow ones don't work :gay:

Well at least you know you've got a good base to work from. i would also check the dizzy for wear if the shaft is worn it would alter the points gap.smile

I'd be inclined to go through the ignition system again as Bary says. Do you have another 'known good' dizzy, coil and condensor to swap onto it just for a test?

I'd also pull all the plugs out, earth each one out against the block in turn and spin the engine over to check for a weak spark. This is also a good test to see if any of the leads are shit - if you get a belt off any of them then swap it for another one. Doesn't have to be a new one.
