seriously tho, depends on you really, and the size o your glass. start off with a little bit of water matey n then add more till you find YOUR taste.
Water will help take the roughness away and be easier on ur throat, trial and error really dude

when i come down to Action i will bring some real nice single malt so you can try that n see the difference
My fave so far is the stuff from my place which is a Mortlach 16 year old, matured in sherry casks and fookin boooooteeeeefull, cant fuckin get it tho

enjoy dude oh and dont be put off if you dont like red or black as there are shit loads of different types of whisky
